      Great Film!

Don't hesitate on this one. Steve Buscemi is solid as Nikita Khrushchev (loved the casting) as well as Jason Isaacs as Zhukov. When it's described as a comedy of terrors, it's not an exaggeration. Keep in mind, there is some intensity, so may not be appropriate for some individuals. However, I recommend The Death of Stalin. The case and DVD are very basic, hopefully they may release a more robust version someday.

    • Missed it in the theatre? "Death of Stalin" is something to celebrate!

This hilarious black comedy from the originator of "The Thick of It" and later "VEEP" excoriates the boot-licking sycophants surrounding Stalin after the undignified demise of the premier leads to frenzied confusion and back-stabbing among his followers. It showcases performances from an amazing cast that includes Jason Isaacs and Steve Buscemi, and its machine-gun dialog rewards repeat viewing.

    • See it.

This film will be triply enjoyable for those who know any of the history of Stalin and USSR during and after his (AT LAST!) death. The fear/terror of him and each other in his inner circle (and the country), and their vying for power, are well worked up, as is NKVD chief Beria's lust for young girls, and the ease and frequency in which people are executed in the USSR often with little sense to it. Notable is the matter-of-factness that deaths of prisoners and USSR citizens are discussed by the characters. But terror and mass executions were Stalin's way, and it was "them or us." (Khrushchev's vigorous role in massacres in the early years was not much included.) Dark/black humor for sure, but richer are the solid connections with true historical events and places (and a superb ...

    • Funny, at times dark comedy worthy of serious analysis of the old Soviet system of government.

The craziest part is that it's based on reality. The Monty Python style of comedy superimposed on real life events sums up a very believable scenario. Who said history is boring? Not in this movie!

    • Different view of Stalin terror

The top USSE leaders were as terrified as the general population. I never would have thought of Nikita Krushchev as a reformer but compared to Stalin he was. My favorite character is the Russian general.
