About this product

Product Information

The PowerShot A1200 digital camera is all about capturing your memories your way. An optical viewfinder gives you an easy, familiar alternative to composing shots with an LCD screen. And now you can preserve your memories exactly the way you see them in incredibly true-to-life 720p HD. With 12.0 megapixels, you'll be able to blow up your shots without losing a single detail, and the 4x wide-angle (28mm) optical zoom gets you close to the action quickly. The camera uses AA batteries, so you'll have power anytime, anywhere. Discreet mode lets you shoot where you never could before, by disabling sound, flash and AF beam. Looking to put a little artistry in your photography? Creative filters mode makes it easy with appealing options like fisheye effect, miniature effect, monochrome and more.

    Like using regular AA batteries

I wish it had the operating instructions. There are some things I cannot figure out.

    Advances and setbacks for Canon

This camera is the 3rd Canon pocket camera I've used...previous ones were the Canon PowerShot 530 & PowerShot 540... THE GOOD: better resolution, and the Macro mode works well. It can take a larger capacity SD card. It can also shoot in hi resolution widescreen mode (great, in case I want to incorporate a photo into a video project). Itused 2 standard AA batteries, and it does retain the optical viewfinder, and the camera is also smaller than earlier versions of the PowerShot line... THE BAD: a LOT of Parallax Error when using the optical viewfinder, quite pronounced...if you CENTER a subject in the viewfinder, it will end up at the lower part of the photo. This is where looking at the LCD screen (if the sunlight is not hitting it) might be the bast way to compose a shot. I bought THIS model specifically because it did have the optical viewfinder. The Parallax Error is minimal in the older PS 530 & PS 540 camera's. Also, when looking through the optical viewfinder, the lower left portion is blocked by the lens...yup, the barrel of the lens is visible in the viewfinder !!! I have a lot of respect for the Canon products I'm fond of, but this is a major blunder on Canon's engineering dept. Finally, the steps you must to to, to set up for a Macro shot, (or other specialty shot) is cumbersome... Sorry Canon, If I buy another USED Canon pocket camera, it will be an older model...

  • Viewfinder!!!

It's great to have a point-and-shoot camera with a viewfinder that saves on battery power which can be rechargeable AA's.

  • Unique

What makes the camera unique is the electronic viewfinder that is usable when the screen finder isn't. I've given away cameras with only screen finders.
