Bei dem Pioneer VSX-S300 6.1 Kanal 100 Watt Empfänger handelt es sich um einen sogenannten Receiver, sprich um ein Gerät, das einen Verstärker und ein Radio in einem Gehäuse birgt. Der Pioneer-Empfänger nimmt einen Raum von 435x85x317 cm ein und hat ein Gewicht von 4,2 kg. Als Class-D-Verstärker leistet der Pioneer VSX-S300 bis zu 100 Watt pro Kanal. Die Kanäle differenzieren sich in fünf Lautsprecherausgänge und einen Anschluss für einen passiven Subwoofer. Als Audioausgabegerät unterstützt der Pioneer-Empfänger 14 digitale Decoder, unter anderem Dolby TrueHD und dts-HD Master Audio. Im Surroundbetrieb kann der Nutzer Soundvoreinstellungen in Bezug auf die zu hörenden Genres vornehmen, sei es Klassik oder Gaming, Action oder Drama. Dies bietet auch der Betrieb über Kopfhörer an. Zudem lassen sich Tiefen und Höhen über Regler individuell einstellen. Die Radiokomponente empfängt UKW und MW, speichert bis zu 30 Sender und findet Sender automatisch über RDS. Als Bindeglied von bild- und tonsendenden Geräten im Heimkino ist der Pioneer-Empfänger in der Lage, dreidimensionale Bilddateien zu erkennen und an entsprechende bildgebende Geräte wie 3D-TV oder 3D-Beamer auszugeben. Die Technologien Deep Colour, x.v.Colour und HD Film Direct 24 optimieren dabei die Videosignale. Der 3D-HD-Audio-Empfänger eignet sich zum Aufbau eines Home Entertainments, da sich an ihn alle bild- und tonsendenden Geräte über vier HDMI-Eingänge, aber auch über koaxiale, kompositäre und digital optische Eingänge anschließen lassen. Ein HDMI-Ausgang ist für TV oder Beamer vorgesehen. Der maximale Stromverbrauch im Betrieb wird bei diesem 3D-HD-Audio-Empfänger mit 415 Watt angegeben, der Verbrauch im Stand-by-Modus liegt bei 0,3 Watt.
