PLOT: FRENCH REISTANCE FIGHTER put in a Nazi Guarded Prison plans an escape HOURS before he is to die~ ROBERT BRESSON directed and wrote this GEM OF A MOVIE it won Best Director at Cannes and Best Film of the Year French Film Academy~~ shot in 1956 shot in black and white it ADDS to the fun~ Fontaine is caught doing his reistance work and tossed in a Nazi Guarded French Prison~ he slowly HEARS fellow prisoners being shot one by one~ so he carefully plans his escape using wire from his bed and every piece of cloth for his rope THIS MOVIE DOES NOT LAG after the first 10 minutes SHOT IN FRENCH WITH ENGLISH SUBTITLES we are glued to the interesting way he makes his escape equipment~THE WAY HE STEALS A SPOON AND TAKES THE WOODEN DOOR TO HIS CELL APART~ HE is suddenly taken to the local German Magistrate and told he is to die for his resistance activities~ so he STEPS up his efforts and plans but a twist is added when a prisioner is added to his cell~ is this a german PLANT? taking a chance now the 2 escapes toss their homemade rope and hooks over several walls guarded by the germans ~ facinating~ great story~ and well shot~ the ONLY way this could have been better is a bit more an ending but over all I GIVE IT A SOLID 10 OUT OF 10~ BETTER THAN I EVER EXPECTED AND DID NOT DISAPPOINT WHAT SO EVER~ GREAT MOVIE~based on an actual event~!
