If you're like me and enjoy playing retro games on real hardware, you'll know the struggles of playing older consoles on modern TV's. When I want to plug my N64 or PS1 into my TV, I'm presented with a blurry and noisy picture that looks like a pixelated cereal. The best option is to just use a CRT, since that's what the consoles were made for at the time. But no one uses CRT's anymore, and even if you bought one, they're a pain to store away, they're heavy, and they have a high pitched ring emanating from them (mine does, at least). So the next best option is to use a HDMI upscaler. This will basically convert the component signal coming from your console, and scale up the picture to a 720p or 1080p resolution, and output it through a HDMI cable so you can easily plug it into your modern LCD TV. I didn't want to break the bank, I'm always looking for the cheapest option. Obviously if I had the money I'd just buy a framemeister, but I don't exactly have $500 to throw in the air. Honestly with this product, and most things in life, you get what you pay for. This upscaler really just converts the component signal to HDMI. That's it. I can really only *maybe* see a tiny improvement to the picture quality. But if I could put a percentage to it, I'd put it between 5 - 10%. You're still left with a noisey, blurry pixelated mess, but now in 720/1080p. The colours also look a bit washed out. If you're after quality, you're not after this. Go for something a bit more expensive. Upscalers aren't cheap though. If you really wanted to go the whole 9 yards, save up for a framemeister. But do your research, I'm sure you'll find a suitable compromise. If you're not too fussed with quality, and you just want to convert the component signal on the cheap, then this is the perfect option.Read full review
