The last season of Babylon 5 was a transition period between the original era and an expanding universe. With the movement from the WB network to TNT, closing out old stories and opening new ones became the focus. Some changes in characters were handled off screen, while others were boldly brought in. Focus on some of the ongoing story lines shifted also. In all it moved right along setting up the new stories for Crusade and a possible Ranger series. Its success is up to each person to judge. The set of discs came with minimal extras and limited commentaries.

B5 was essentially a complete story at the end of it's fourth season, and the early episodes of season five show that its creator is struggling to find a new path for a completed story. The telepath problem is reduced to a silly cult-like fad, and the fight against them seems to be a battle against minor annoyances. By mid-season, however, the story slides back to the troubles left behind on Centauri prime, and with Londo back in the forefront and the Alliance back at risk, it's shocking how this near-stillborn season manages to take back life and make us care again during its second half. Most emotional, however, is it's final episode, originally filmed at the end of season four but held back after season five came about. Brilliantly written, it shows life in the decades that followed the alliance's foundation and brings to the surface so many of the very real emotions that a long-time viewer has for so many of these fictional individuals. Season 5 is by far the worst of the five B5 seasons, but it's final episode is easily one of the top 3 episodes of the series.Read full review
The last season of Babylon 5 ties up a lot of loose ending, and gives the fan something unheard of...two final episodes. The last episode of this series was originally shot during the fourth season because the producers were unsure there was even going to be a fifth season. Unlike the ending of most of the Star Trek tv series franchises, Babylon 5 renders in the two finales a happy ending, and final satisfying conclusion. B5 is a science fiction novel in television form, thought provoking drama, filled with characters you can care about. Even the dullest person you know will appreciate the action and special effects, which were ground-breaking television at the time. This series paved the way for a lot of good science fiction to follow on tv....on a personal note, i hated to get to the end; its like getting to the end of a great book, and you realize, thats all there is. I was satisfied with everything, but I hated to let go, it brought a tear to my eyes.Read full review
