Purchased for less than thirty Australian dollars in Jan 2017, this folder is very good value. The quality of build is excellent, and considering it's size, is very light weight. I own several folding knives, including high quality expensive brands. All of them fall into two categories, small blades, which are very compact but feel a little small in the hand, and then this size, which although takes up more room either in your pocket, belt or purse, feels much better in the hand, important for cutting control and safety. The plastic rubberized grip is good even when wet and is warm to the touch, a factor in cold conditions, which in Melbourne is nearly all the time. I don't mind the orange highlight colors as it makes it much easier to spot this knife on the ground or elsewhere, if you're working in a cluttered environment or on a forest floor with lots of debris. I prefer the Scout's lock back mechanism, as it's easier to clean and get sand and dirt out, in water. A lever lock would need dismantling to properly clean by contrast. I have no intention of batoning with this knife, if you want to do that, you really need a quality, full tang, fixed blade. So I'd consider this to be a light duty knife for cooking, cutting rope and garden hose, opening letters, cutting up cardboard boxes for the bin, shaving wood a little bit, cutting telephone and data cable if you don't have anything better to hand. All these attributes make the Scout a great utility pocket carry knife. Serrations are ok, as long as you've got a round file or round diamond sharpener. Knife came sharp, which I appreciate, but not razor sharp. Disadvantages - I wouldn't subject this knife to as much twisting and levering, as I would my other folding knives, but then if need to do a heavy duty job, you really need a tool appropriate to those demands. Even an expensive folder will not do that. It wont cut cake or large veges as cleanly, because of the serrations. After using all kinds of knives for years, including Swiss Army knives, in my regular work as a handyman and renovator, my requirements have boiled down to these - Good value, sufficient quality to the task, light weight, comfortable in hand, warm to touch, easy to spot colors, no sharp edges to rip holes in your pockets, a lanyard hole to make it even easier to find in dark tool bags, and increase hand grip when using a sawing motion to cut (sometimes you're on a roof, and you really don't want to go back down just to get one tool for a small cutting job). In essence, if it's convenient to carry on your person, as this Scout is, you're much more likely to use and enjoy owning this knife. The shape of this knife folded, makes it ideal to live in the bottom of my front left pocket, beneath my wallet. I hope this review has helped clarify whether this knife will meet your requirements.Read full review

This knife is one of my personal favourites, and one of my best selling items. What sets it apart from other folding knives is that it is designed with pure utility in mind, without placing a large emphasis on aesthetics. The handle is made from a grippy rubber, which greatly reduces the chance of the knife slipping out of your hand, even when undertaking the toughest jobs. The simple lock-back mechanism is considered to be one of them most reliable and hardy locking mechanisms, which rarely fail. The blade has 7Cr17MoV carbon steel, which has a titanium coating applied to it for corrosion resistance. The bear grylls scout knife is great for the price and definitely a good tool to have if you find yourself in a survival situation. Pro's: Lightweight, High-Grip Handle, Affordable, Strong & Reliable Locking System, Cons: Blade Steel Could be better, AestheticsRead full review

This Gerber knife is very light, well made with serrated section which is rare in a folder. Awesome grip with no chance of slipping when field harvesting game and the orange handle can be seen easily if placed on the ground. One of the best, affordable, lightweight folders on the market.
