I haven't hooked them up yet. I'm using my B&W Studio Monitors at the moment. I have to repair the rear speak covers stays. Because I listen to music somewhere around 200 watts per channel, the rear covers blow off. No biggie. Been designing and building Professional Sound Systems 30 years in the Entertainment Industry so I am positive that I can improve the design and update it with present technology. I do love the Sound of 901's.

These old Bose speakers still sound good, but the hook up to modern equipment is greatly hindered by this required Equalizer and the end result is nothing special. I am going to dump the whole lot of it and move on.

I have heard so many negative comments about the 901s that I have finally decided to add my input. I purchased my bose speakers almost 30years ago. At the time I had them set up in my bedroom and I must admit I was not impressed. The space was cramped and there was little room for them to display their true abilities. I have the impression that many of the negative comments are the result of the speakers not being properly situated. When I moved to my present location I had the chance to place the speakers in an more advantageous area. The difference was stunning. I stayed up half the night listening to music I have heard many times before. At present, the 901s are part of a multichannel system featuring a paradigm center channel and a pair of smaller Polk speakers in the rear. The low end is covered by a Hsu Research VTF15. Music and movies are breathtaking in their clarity and power. Amplification is provided by an Onkyo Integra receiver and a vintage Soundcraftsman 2 channel amp. The 901s are powered by the Soundcraftsman giving each of them 175 watts of dedicated encouragement. The center channel and the rear speakers are powered by the Integra. To my way of thinking, the bose speakers leave precious little to be desired without a substantial increase in cost for different (better?)speakers. Read full review

Amazing little speakers. I can hear things that I couldn't on my old speakers. I've had a lot of different speakers in the past years. These Bose have a unique sound. They lack the deep bass which can be obtained with the use of a separate sub woofer if your listening style requires that extra punch. The clarity on these are amazing. I can hear the bass guitarist sliding their fingers on the strings and the vocalist take a breath before the next line. These Bose have a big speaker sound for a small package. "Better Sound Through Research", Two thumbs up!
I first heard these speakers in 1987 and was amazed at how they sounded. I finally 30 years later bought a pair of the series VI with eq. I am running these through my vintage yamaha 50 watt/channel receiver and a sound shaper eq, with the bose eq. These speakers are amazing. The highs, the mids, the lows all come to life as if your at the show. Only thing is to make sure that you place them properly. 80% of the sound comes out of the back of the speaker so place at least a foot and a half away from the wall. If you can place them in a corner even better with a foot and half away from all walls. Its as if you have surround sound and boy can these things crank. I'm looking into getting a marantz 2500 receiver that will pump 250 watts/channel and then I'm gonna be in Hi-Fi heaven. I would recommend these speakers to any hi-fi head. Love these speakers.Read full review
