Potentially a very good product and the 200 GB plan offered by Optus seems to be very good value. The Optus support in Manilla Phillipines varies but overall they simply run from a script and in reality know less about the product than I do. I did have major issues with the initial E5186 I received on 3-12-2016 ...support was almost non-existent and when I returned to Optus at Fountain Gate on 11-12-2016 I was told by a female member of staff " what do you want me do ? stand here all day and watch the thing for you .......unbelievable but unfortunately 100 % true. I found it necessary to buy a " stand-by" E5186 on Ebay for $225 which included express freight from Sydney due to the " non-help " from Optus .....eventually I received very good and friendly help from one of the ladies at the Optus shop in Pakenham and my debacle with Optus was largely resolved .......I could thoroughly recommend Optus at Pakenham. I have " plugged " into a few Optus Cell towers in South East outer Melbourne and also into various towers thru-out Tasmania. Connections were invariably near full scale . I could only connect to 3G and the speed was almost universally 5 Megs down and 1 Meg the other way .....quite acceptable. I believe if you can hook into a 4G tower the download speed is likely to be 12 m-bits per second ....nice I would think. I believe that any available Port Forwarding is very limited ....regretfully I had no joy in this regards. I did not bother to call Optus Support in Manilla...as I doubt that they would have had the slightest clue about what I was talking about [ support limited to reading from a basic script ] Also there seems no way of saving the router settings to a text file.....such a pity and if true a major drawback. My greatest fear and despair has been with the " Mode " indicator light ......wonderful if it stays " blue " but if happens to turn " red " prepare for the horrors ....and I really mean this. In theory it means that the device has lost its connection to the Optus 3G tower ....however I suspect the device is very sensitive to the 230 volt power source that the device is connected to. Most times you could " recover " from the " red mode " display by resetting the device to its default settings .....the drawback was the need to completely reprogram the router, given that there is no way to save your chosen settings to a text file. In summary when this product is firing on all cylinders it is great .....when you see the Red Mode light your spirits drop almost to a level of depression [ don't expect any useful Optus Manilla support ...ie The Phillipines ] and therefore it becomes a 0 out of 10 proposition billj 10-2-2017Read full review

This is one of the few 4G modems that uses ALL the Optus bands, where i live i needed band 28 (700mhz), others don't, check carefully before you buy, many on Ebay do not use Optus bands. Very simple to set up, can change LAN IP, can use DHCP and MAC filtering. Have plugged in 2 4G antenna (not expensive), get 25 Mbit download routinely. Can login via lan IP and toggle data on/off, and it leaves the network running, very important feature to keep data uasage low for PC's with Windows 8 & 10 that EAT data WIFI signal is good, i use the LAN ports to run to another Router/Repeater For the price its great value, Optus want around $400, so anything around $200 is great value, and the SIM just plugs in and connects., it does not seem to get too hot in standby so you dont have to keep powering it off to cool down Good choice if you need an Optus 4G compatible modem and dont want to be locked into Optus contract for hardwareRead full review

Works fine out of the box on Optus 4G network. Is the only router that I could find that works on their 700MHz band. Unfortunately it gives you no config options like bridge mode, fixed IP or port forwarding. Ok if you don't need these things however, if you have a complex LAN environment as I do it is a bit of a problem. Otherwise it works fine and delivers pretty good 802.11AC WLAN speeds. 5Ghz channel doesn't penetrate house walls very much but 4GHz is as good as other routers I've used. I have now added an Amplifi meshed router (bridge mode) and that gives me good coverage across a large home.

Easy to set up. Convenient product if you move house often and can't be bothered with new phone line connections and contracts. Has two 4g aerial inputs on the back, so if you are in lower service areas (which I am), you have the option to boost your signal.

Over the past month this device has provided wireless broadband at far superior speed to what we previously got with ADSL2. No complaints about the device and is easy to set up.
