We have four of these printers and they do a great job of creating labels we can put on kids in our kids church to identify them and also provide a claiming tag for their parents which we use for a security measure. Set up can be tricky especially if you do not have the CD that comes with a new printer. The used printer did not come with the disk but we already had one. You can download the drivers from the manufacturer but the CD does make it easier to get the setup correct. But even with the setup CD, it is not an intuitive process and I have had to fumble around with the install until I finally got the PC and printer to "talk" to each other.

A few months ago I was looking for a GX420 printer and noticed the used GX420t's were going for $75-$100 while most GX420d's cost twice that. I did some research and learned that the d's were direct thermal (no ribbon) and the t's *could* use a ribbon (direct transfer), but also work as direct thermal (no ribbon). I think everyone is assuming the d is no ribbon and the t requires a ribbon, but it just isn't true. So in the past few weeks I've picked up two GX420t's for under $100 that are in perfect condition, work perfectly, and I use as direct thermal so I don't have to buy ribbons. The tough thing is network set up. If you download the manual, go to page 60-something on setting up network and you'll have to use Powershell to glean an IP address to get into to the internal printer server to set the IP on your network. This printer will NOT auto-assign an IP address using DHCP. That is why they have such a bad rep for set up...... but if you can read and follow instructions, you can set it up (I have no computer background and was able to stumble my way through it). So let everyone else fight over the GX420d's, and be smarter by getting an undervalued GX420t.Read full review

The included software is easy to use. We setup the printers with the internal print server and the process is relatively simple. Our shipping people are very happy with the new printers compared to the old Okidatas that these are replacing.

I also use 4 x 1.5 inch labels with Windows based word processing software to print address labels for mailing.

Worked right out of the box via USB, but I found the WiFi setup to be a real struggle. The provided setup software version on the included CD turned out to be the problem. An update version downloaded from the Zebra website solved the problem and it was up a running wirelessly in about 10 minutes. Love the small footprint and the ability to print via the WiFi connection means one label printer suffices for both my wife and I to do our home-based business shipping!
