The paper trays are flimsy. The lower A3 tray in particular warps and fails to maintain its seated position for A3 paper. Trying to get it to go back in properly is difficult and many times the machine shows it's not in properly even though it should be. The ink cartridges it comes with produce very dull and muddy looking images. The vivid setting seems to make little difference. I see they are going to pigment inks for their newer models so they must have noted the reaction from customers for this. Generic inks work better but black areas still appear washed out and faded. You have to use the 'Best' and 'Vivid' settings combined with brighter generic ink cartridges to get an acceptable image. The paper trays fail to feed through glossy photo paper 160gsm (which is standard photo paper). So that is a complete failure when the only way it will feed gloss photo paper is one sheet at a time through the rear manual feed slot. And you can't print more than one at a time or you have to turn the machine off and on again to clear the job properly. Printing a booklet (e.g. 4 A4 pages to front and back of a single A3 page is only possible if you manually select "Fit to size" in the standard print prefs because you can't do it within the Brother print driver otherwise when you select multi page booklet, it prints the A4 page as A5. This is totally round-about compared to other printers I have tried which are capable of printing A3. The machine will not print both sides of any type of paper other than plain paper, so forget about trying to print both sides of any card or photo type paper. Very disappointing.Read full review

At first glance it is an appealing printer but once you begin to use it you start to see more flaws than you would be comfortable with. it is easy to set up and can be used on a MAC and PC however the cds are outdated and you will need to use the website instead. For MAC users I did find you had to install the scanner and printer drivers separately for an imac and a macbook pro otherwise it would not complete the installation properly. We installed on 2008, 2012, 2015, 2016 macs. The printer can be used without installation however to use the scanner you need the software installed if you are scanning directly to the computer. Firstly, while it does scan and print in A3 the quality isnt as good as expected. Although, the scanner on this printer is actually faster, my flatbed scanner and the scanner in my generic multifunction printer can produce much better quality and with more accurate colours. I tested laminated vs unlaminated, gloss vs matt, paper vs photo, black vs colour and document vs pictures. The printing is below average. I have tried different types of paper (GSM, colour, type and brand) as well as different inks and the quality is very disappointing. It seems to perform much better in greyscale. The quality improves as well, which is disappointing considering it is a colour printer. Depending on the paper, I found that printing errors occurred such as; blotching, streaking, incorrect colours and failure to include certain colours. This happened with all types of paper as well and it didnt make a difference whether it was premium or generic. Printing on photo paper was extremely disappointing regardless of the settings. Again, my generic printer outperformed. Doing printing tests and checking if the ink and heads were aligned failed to improve the quality. In regards to using brother ink vs generic ink, no difference in quality but the brother ink does last longer although, it doesnt last as long as they state on the packages and this was tested a few times using different paper and ink cartridges. The ink is also expensive. It is cheaper to buy generic ink however there is a higher risk of damaging the printer and producing lower quality. Wireless printing runs smoothly however keep in mind that printing from ipads/phones you cannot determine the layout and it prints in lower quality. The best feature about using the wireless is the ability to use the app to scan whatever is in the printer at the time from another room. If using the USB cord, keep in mind it is located inside the scanner so the cord isnt as long once its plugged in but if you are using wireless printing that doesnt matter. Good features include the ability to scan directly onto USB, SD and even to Onepoint. The scanning function is very quick which is extremely useful for pdfs (scanned 45 A3 pages in 50 seconds on an Imac and approx 1 minute 10 seconds on PC however that could be due to the computer specs as well). If using the document feeder, they do end up slightly misaligned and nothing could correct it. Please reconsider if you are after good quality printing and scanning. The price isnt worth the purchase. It is extremely overrated. The same printing and scanning qualities can be found on much cheaper brands.Read full review

It works and works well. Quiet, modern and full of features. I had a previous model and that was good too. But this iteration is far better. Great work Brother. All good!

This product is intuitive comes with easy to follow instructions and is quite easy to setup. It has wireless capability so you can connect it to your home network and adjust all the settings print and start a scan remotely from your PC (obviously you will have to place the document in the scanner) I am only going to touch briefly on the functionality as I only just got it! The only undesirable thing I have noticed thus far is that when scanning you lose a bit of colour depth, this can be rectified slightly by adjusting the scanning brightness but not eliminated completely
