It can be helpful for children to learn that not only people have families, but so do animals. This book introduces the child to the concept of a family that does not neccesarily live together, but are held together by the bonds of family never the less. Clifford and Emily Elizabeth pay a visit to the city where Clifford was born. He visits his siblings, his mother, and his father. Of course, being dogs, they all live in different homes. Sometimes people live in different homes too. Love and affection within a family can extend beyond the walls of one home. Norman Bridwell intended for each of his books to teach an important lesson in values. This book holds true to this admirably. Accelerated Reading Score 2.0/0.5 points.
My daughter liked this book when she was little, then my granddaughter. I am just getting ready to give it to my 2 year old grandson. All the kids seem to love CLIFFORD The BIG Red Dog! Written by Norman Bridwell & published by Scholastic Books this Clifford story tells all about his family. Clifford's owne Emily Elizabeth & Clifford now live in a small town but used to live in the city. They take a trip back to the city & visit Clifford's mother, his father, & "siblings" if you will. Clifford is the only big red dog in his family, the others are regular dogs. He visits his brother at the fire station & his sister Bonnie at a farm. He even helps put out a fire! Bright colorful, cheerful pictures add to the fun of the book. Great gift for any small child or Clifford lover!
