Cold Steel revolutionized the lock back folder when it introduced the TRI-AD lock to it's already formidable folding knife line up. But, never one to rest on their laurels, Lynn Thompson and company have stepped up their game with their ASSISTED opening folder, aptly named the "Swift". There are actually TWO versions of this knife, the pictured satin polished version, and the all black "DLC" coated version. Other than the black "Diamond Like Coating" on the blade and hardware, the two knives are identical. Blade material is AMERICAN Carpenter CTS XHP steel which has replaced the usual AUS-8A, and is an improvement in edge retention, and overall steel quality. The blade is beautifully dual tone finished with a high polish on the swedge and flats of the blade grind, with a subtle satin finish on the spine. It is opened with a flick of the dual thumb studs, and, while the detente is firm, it does not take too much pressure to overcome it, as the "Flash-Tek" spring flicks the blade out smoothly, with a satisfying "snick" as the Andrew Demko "Tri-Ad" lock snaps firmly into place. Speaking of the blade, the modified spear point measures in at 3 5/8" from hilt to tip, which contradicts the 4" measurement claimed in press releases and printed on the box. You can stretch that to 3 3/4" if you measure to the FURTHEST bit of exposed blade behind the edge, but the 4" mark finds you back at the pivot pin, so, frankly I'm puzzled as to why this bit of overstatement on blade length. It's pretty much the only complaint I have about the blade, and frankly, not serious enough to keep me from buying it. There is plenty of jimping along the spine and finger cutout of the blade, and though functional, it is not very aggressive. The handle scales are textured G-10, and provide a good grip, as well as adding to the good looks of this knife. The pocket clip is wide but not obtrusive, and there is an extra one included for those who prefer left side carry Overall I would rate this one a 4.9 out of five, with the knock for the misleading blade length claim. not for any quality issues. It will make a great "EDC +" knife than can stand up to some hard use.Read full review

I like assisted opening feature on folding knives. This design was stiff to open and I had to grind down the bump on the blade that pushes against the lock to be able to get it to open with a thumb flick. I have several of these and I have had the same problem with each.

The Swift I is definitely one of the best knifes I've ever owned. I've collected knifes for many years and this knife is absolutely my favorite of all. Some of the knifes I own where as much as three times the cost and none match the Swift's performance. The steel holds an edge like no other, I skinned two deer this season and its still sharp enough to shave. I've got a medium to large hand and its very comfortable and sturdy. The assisted open is unbelievably strong it opens faster than any knife I'm aware of. I highly recommend the Swift I, you can't go wrong with this one.

I love this knife! It's not often that I venture over the $100 mark AND outside the U.S.A. for my carry knife. I am glad I did. My Cold Steel Swift I is assisted open, lightweight, thin in the pocket, with attractive G-10 ergonomic handles/scales and a beefy, great looking blade made from American CTS XHP powdered steel with enhanced edge retention and a renowned secure lockup. The Cold Steel Swift I has bumped my Kershaw Blur S30V from my everyday pants pocket. As to the Hate relationship. I was shopping for a 4-inch blade on a knife with similar qualities to those noted above. I'd bet most knife owners by a wide margin measure their blades from the tip to the nearest edge of the handle, or the hilt on a straight blade knife. If I push my blade straight through a cardboard box as far as the blade will go until the handle stops at the cardboard then this is what I believe the most generous measured blade length is. Don't tell me the blade extends down around the curved edge of the handle. That is nonsense and not practical. If it doesn't go into the cardboard box it isn't usable blade length. My Swift I blade measures 3-9/16 ". Cold Steel and nearly all sellers market this as a 4" blade and 4" is even printed on the box. This clear deception detracts from what is an excellent product that can stand honestly on it's own as a good value. From now on I will have to figure in your inflated blade lengths when I compare various knives online and make a purchase decision. I don't want to have to comb through pages of customer reviews to find out the true blade length. C'mon, Cold Steel, you don't need to fudge the numbers. That just damages customer relations. You have a great product that otherwise deserved 5 Stars.Read full review

I purchased this knife as a gift for a friend. Quality is equal too and in many cases better than knives in drastically higher cost brackets. I was confused slightly when trying to find out why some of the SWIFT's have a safety and some do not. I learned there are 2 generations of the SWIFT model, and this has nothing to do with SWIFT vs SWIFT II. SWIFT II is simply an all black model. The blade length and safety differentiate the SWIFT early and current versions. I purchased the newer with safety. Its a quality item, thats razor blade sharp and feels great in the hand and it looks BA.
