*SPOILERS AHEAD* I love Finding Nemo, it has always been a favourite of mine, and Dory has always been my favourite character. She was more than the forgetful and ditzy character we were introduced with, throughout the film we see how hard she tries to make everyone around her happy. I was disappointed that there was a chance we wouldn't see more of her story, which is why I started counting down the theatre release the day Ellen announced the creation of the sequel. I'm a huge fan of Ellen too, which only adds to the love for dory, because you can see Dory's kindness in Ellen. When I saw it in theatre I swear I was a kid again, I have no children so I took my mom with me to make it look less sad than going on my own as my friends refused to go. The opening introduces us back to our favourite childhood main characters; Nemo, Marlin, and Dory. I especially love how it shows what life is like now for them first. Then we're introduced to the school and Mr Ray, this gives the idea that not much time has passed since finding Nemo as they're all still pretty small. It has a few jokes for the adults, and I especially love when they say "well, when two fishes love each other" as opposed to "when mommy and daddies love each other". It's perfectly played out and innocently funny for adults to enjoy. We then have a moment where Dory has another flashback to a memory, like the way she did in the first film with the goggles. The film shows a powerful journey that Dory has to go through. We see more to her character; we see her determination, her sorrow, but also her need to find her family. I think I can fairly say that the moment where Dory finds her parents again is a powerful and profound moment, one that deserves an award in itself. It shows the power of a parents love, as in real life parents who have missing children still leave lights on or do things in hope their kids will come home. We also see how her parents immediately launch into parent mode; almost like Dory was a baby. Which in a sense, she still is to them, as I am with my mother. I bought this film because I wanted to be able to see it whenever, it's the kind of film to watch to make you feel better. Well done, Ellen. Well done, Disney. You have absolutely outdone yourselves.Read full review
