Telling the story that for the time of its setting, may or may not have been highly possible and perhaps even probable, this movie was made long before the drink had got to Richard Burton's good looks and way before Joan Collins relied on heavy make-up to keep hers. Both actors give convincing performances, but it is Basil Sydney who steals the show with his performance of the very, very frightened businessman who can only express his fear through sarcasm, perceived racism and self-absorption. A brilliant movie of its time.
