Pros: It saves lot of time if you need to squash dough thinly. If you need the final thinner product then just put extra layers of thin plastic sheets in between the dough. Cleaning is not a problem since thin food grade sheets are used to separate the food and the aluminium (Al) plates. Cons : The pressure at the contact region between the lever and the top plate is large and scouring can be seen to produce debris of Al (which is a soft metal) & wearing marks. This problem can be alleviated by putting two small layers of freezer paper (~polypropylene) to reduce friction - any thin layers of slippery material may do the same job (eg "Teflon" sheets - hard to come by) - not a neat looking solution but working ok.

Whilst it works, it is not heavy duty. The aluminium is too light and bends. So you can't get a thin flatbread if the dough has oil in it, like some naan recipies. Good for initial squish but I had to then roll it out to get the thinness required. So a good help with time saving.

I was really tired of hand rolling all my tortillas and thought it was time I bought a press. I’m happy with this one but I wish it actually pressed out the dough to the full edges of the plate. I find I have to roll them out a little bit further still. Happy to have cut out part of the work though and my kids love helping!

Would not make tortilla constant thickness, as product has tendantcey to bend when pressed. Had to screw and support on wooden plank
