The series started out great, then slowly came to a halt. Was expecting a confrontation between Al and Hearst, but Hearst just left town after killing several key people. Yes, the language could be an issue, but then again, don't watch it. Would I recommend it, or watch it again in the future, Probably. If there was a season 4 DVD, I'd buy it. Not the great series I was expecting, and nothing to brag about, but descent entertainment and a decent representation of the real west. The bonus material was great.
Never cared to watch Deadwood when it was "on". A friend I highly respect shared with me that Deadwood was, as the original Star Trek once was, ground breaking. I tried season one and couldn't stop watching. The REAL Wild West it is; with no holds barred. I grew up with "Westerns" At first I thought Deadwood was a kind of excessive "gutter" work and I did not dismiss it. I kept watching. By the end of the 2nd episode I was aware of how far "back" I had to keep stepping back to take in the magnificent reality (based on reality by the by) that this "Series" gave to me, no holds barred. The utter dangerous nature of America in 1875. The fact of no law was THE law. Then, the totally unexpected shift (before I realized it) to poignant tenderness, kindness, then, to feeling of the toughness necessary to survive. The Brilliance of all the cast (congrats to casting), each reflecting a perfect picture of all the players one meets today. The difference being "then" was immediately real.. . Today, it's all the same but very well hidden and manipulated by "the culture" we've created. You've got to try 2, no, 3 episodes and you will KICK yourself for not having purchased the whole set. I bought this one to share with loved ones/friends (the same to me). Have no doubt. This is as good as it gets. There WILL be a movie or two made of this someday. Blessings on you and yours and remember; DEADWOOD LIVED andyRead full review
I was Wyatt Earp in my last life. Been to Tombstone, Dodge City, Hays, Ellsworth and the rest of them. Deadwood really brought back memories. This movie WAS Deadwood, Dakota Territory. Heck, Hickcok, Jane, Seth, Al and the crew are STILL there. Life was up, down, funny, but most of all wet, muddy and dirty. Trixie was a tease, but really didn't smell too good. Tombstone, Wyatt Earp, Young Guns and the Shootist were phenomenal movies. Lonesome Dove and Open Range were great, but DEADWOOD wraps 'em all up in a nice but gritty blanket! Truly, the most authentic real western ever...the way it really was. I know, I was there! Wyatt B. S. Earp [Berry Stapp, not the other BS]
A GREAT TV SERIES, MUST HAVE IN YOUR COLLECTION, THE FAMILY LOVES IT. 5*****

As a devoted fan of HBO's original series. Deadwood is one of my favorites. The story line take us back to a certain time in the history of our country and teaches us how people had to survive under a series of scarced resources. Deadwood depicted an era in which a small town began to grow and progress along with the corruption of the riches came to alter its normal life style. Deadwood season Three will leave you wanting to see more, unfortunetly, I think its conclusion was left up to the minds of us -- viewers and fans.
