The Engel cooler does about all you can expect from any cooler. I've been able to use mine in a number of different situations and it has performed well. Although I have not been able to reproduce the claims of keeping ice for long periods, I have kept things like milk and eggs very cold and fresh. I've had the cooler sitting in the back of a closed vehicle in hot conditions and it worked well. The top seals well. On occasion coming from the mountains I have had to use the drain to release pressure in order to just open the lid! A cooler is nothing more than an insulated box. The insulation seems to work well on the Engel cooler.

I used the companies suggestions on how to best control ice lose by placing blocks of ice (frozen milk jugs of water) in the cooler 12 hrs before putting in bags of ice filling the cooler 3/4 full. then placing drinks ( which were also already chilled) in the cooler along with some food to put on the grill. The ice was melted in less than 36 hrs. Opening the lid was kept to a minimum.

I really like the construction and look of this cooler. I had a Pelican of the same capacity first and returned it because it was just too heavy and big. I'm not super impressed with the ice retention for the price you pay. In the back of my work van, filled completely with ice, opening the cooler maybe 4-5 times a day, I get no more than 2 days of actual ice. Just cold water after that I've precooled, and don't see much of a difference. It's a really good cooler and I love it, just expected to be closer to the "keeps ice for 8 days" performance.

Built for the outdoors and good pricing unlike the hot trend Yeti's, this thing holds more and stays colder longer. Overall, I would definitely recommend an Engel cooler to someone looking for a premium cooler that will hold ice, withstand abuse and are ok with spending a significant chunk of money on a cooler that will likely last their lifetime. I was torn between the Yeti and Engel because I had accepted the fact that I was going to spend a lot of money on a cooler. I was okay with spending slightly more on a Yeti if I thought that I would get a better product. Having now purchased the Engel, I'm very glad that I did and feel that it is every bit as good as a Yeti (and likely superior in ice retention). Feel free to check out the pics that I uploaded here. In the coming weeks, I'll likely bite the bullet and buy a larger Engel cooler to replace my worn-out larger coolers as well.Read full review

Half the price of Yeti and better quality, latches are a great design, they can be used as a bottle opener and have plenty of down pressure for a better seal. Anchor points under the handles so you can strap down your cooler and still open the lid.
