A powerful scanner with outstanding resolution paired with a restricted (read light) version of scanning software SilverFast 8 means a very effective setup for archiving old prints. The fact that it comes with film carriers to allow scanning of negatives makes it the complete package for me. The colour reproduction is true to source and the software manipulation gives the ability to accurately restore faded sepia prints, while the high resolution allows fine scans of film. I'm impressed by this scanner

Purchased for scanning film b & w negatives created 50 years ago. It does a great job and is very quick. The image quality is superb and creates very clear positive images. Being able to scan 18 35mm negatives at a time is also helpful.

I was on the fence regarding the V800 scanner -vs- the V850 scanner, though I'm very happy with the results of the V800! I cannot do a cross comparison of the two scanners, however my initial scans with the V800 were incredibly sharp corner to corner. I have not scanned 4x5 negs yet, however scanning 35mm negs for contact sheets results in incredible detail! I am confident I can scan a 4x5 neg and print a 48in image with beautiful results. Would the V850 be better? Probably, though I am an exacting photographer and the results thus far have completely satisfied me. The set up was plug n play with nothing more than an epson driver download and a couple cables to plug in. I am terrifically pleased with this purchase!

Easy to use on automatic settings. Film holders feel a little flimsy, but do the job for semi professional use. USB 2.0 output. All in all, good value and consistent high quality results.
