One of the best foreign movies ever made. How often do you watch a movie and think, that could never happen? Europa Europa is so unbelievable, you are thinking that could never happen and yet, it is true. I would recommend everyone see this film as it is an excellent first hand account of World War II and the toll it took on one family. It is easy to look at war as countries, armies and death tolls but it is the personal accounts that stay with us. It is the personal stories that make the war mean something to you. While I enjoy foreign films many people could be put off because it is subtitled. Please do not miss out on this movie experience because you do not want to read. This movie would be great for teenagers to watch, for a different view of World War II. Parents or teachers just need to be mindful that there is brief nudity. Ironically Solomon's nudity also shows the lengths he goes to keep himself hidden from the Nazi's watchful eyes. Solomon takes you on a roller-coaster of horrific events and experiences. Somehow, through the grace of God, there is a 'happy' ending. A movie worth watching time and time again.Read full review
One of the best war movies ever made. The story, the characters and the actors are inspiring. The filming and photography are beautifully done. I highly recommend any seeing this film that is based on fact, a part of European History. I had this film recorded on VHS 13-14years ago and lost it and all my great movies to a tree crashing in my home. The movie is so much better now with the DVD version better picture and sound. I'm so glad to have this special movie collection in my home once again! A wonderfully told story and very heart felt.

I accidently saw this movie on television at home one afternoon, despite subtitles it is very well done. A young German Jewish boy, is sent by his parents to apparently a safer country. This turns out not to be the case as World War II breaks out, and the orphange where our boy is living is evacuated, he does not make the truck and gets rounded up by the German soldiers who are picking people up and putting them on transports to Labor/Death Camps. Our young hero hides his papers and speaks up in German. The soldiers think he is a German orphan and adopt him, he eventually gets sent back to Germany to attend a Nazi school. He hides is plain sight accepted by everybody, it is a great tale of survival, I enjoyed this movie so much I bought the DVD
This is an excellent movie about a young Jewish teenager who survived Nazism. I've watched this movie several times, and I'm amazed at how this kid's survival was due to one miricle after the next. It seemed that everyone who knew either knew about his being Jewish and would betray him or learned he was Jewish were killed instantly. Even his big brother who survived the concentration camp could not believe his kid brother's story and suggested that he not tell anyone because they would not believe it or would believe he collaborated with the Nazi's to survive.
