I wanted a lens like this for some time. It's extremely portable and it's quite versatile (being 45mm). Aperture value can be set in camera but it's manual focus only. This isn't a problem for me because the focus ring is smooth like butter.

I have been a fan of the Nikon GN Auto Nikkor 45mm lens ever since the days of analog film photography. Its focal length of 45mm and the charming compact design have always intrigued and attracted this writer to the extent that I have owned several GN Auto Nikkor 45mm lenses. Even in the age of digital imaging, this gem shines as one of the sharpest lenses that I have used. Currently I enjoy using it mounted on the mirror-less full-frame Sony A7r camera. The images I can get from this lens is tack sharp. I recently bought one of the last production lenses in the 770xxx series. It has a modern coating compared to the older lenses. Most likely, flare is better controlled with the new coating. If you have not tried this lens which is available on eBay for an average price of about $200.00, you might want to try it and see it yourself how sharp this lens is. You will be pleased, if not surprised, with the high IQ associated with this little lens.Read full review

Nikon's so-called 'pancake' lens. Very small, extremely sharp. Not fancy, just takes great pictures and takes up virtually no space, making it more likely you'll have your camera with you when you need it. Forget those low-res pictures from pocket digital cameras and try a photographer's gear.
I purchased the lens for street photography in conjunction with my D700 and F100. I wanted manual focus as most pictures would be taken without looking through the viewfinder but rather guessing the frame and trying to remain inconspicuous. The lens works extremely well with excellent sharpness and color rendition. When I print in monochrome I get excellent gradation across the image. Overall it has become my most used lens.
Optical compact lightweight and easy to use! adapts to any analog or digital camera ... For Nikon FM3/a she is perfect! Great purchase.
