It's a simple request to provide an easy to use, open standard security cam that doesn't cost the earth to buy, after all, you are likely to need a few of them and the cost adds up quickly. I wanted to pair these with my Synology NAS, which I already owned, which meant every proprietary standard was a no go, These units not only offered support for what I needed but FOSCAM openly described the standards they did support on their website prior to purchase which was excellent. I was suitably impressed with the simple but effective packaging. Set up was very easy to the phone with the download of an app and scan of an individual QR code on the back of the unit. Adding to the NAS was a little more tricky, but not hard, however I'm going to spread the load here as the Synology NAS had the incorrect default settings for this camera in its port selections and FOSCAM didn't make it the easiest to find the correct port either. It was only a quick internet search to find the right one however. By the way, if you are wondering, its 88. The load on the wireless network for 2 cameras running constantly is minimal and, even on a base n router, hasn't had a negative effect on the usability of the network. These really are set and forget units and after a few weeks of running I have not had to touch them for any reason. Night vision works quite well and the ability to use the cameras as a speaker, sending voice from the phone app anywhere in the world, is a really nice premium feature that I didn't expect. Another nice feature is once the cameras are configured you can then unplug them, take them to where ever you want them and then just plug them back in, they don't forget any of their settings. I know this isn't a world changing feature but in more affordable products, this sort of flexibility is often sacrificed and it makes it so much easier to set them all up on your desk in front of computer and then just relocate them from there. There is a pay to use cloud based hosting solution integrated into the unit from FOSCAM however I can't comment to the use of that as I don't require it. I will likely be buying more of the FOSCAM product and expanding the network to include external cameras. If these are built to the same standard as the internal ones then I will continue to be suitably impressed with the product. I would recommend this product and had a difficult time deciding between a 4 or 5 star rating. There are a lot more features on the cameras that I have yet to explore but if you are just getting started I couldn't imagine a more capable and well priced unit. Read full review
