You know, being a kid in high school during the early 70s and also being from the great white north just a river away from Canada - I always had an affinity for Gordon Lightfoot. The times were of wooden guitars, frisbees, parks and cannibis. His tales of poetry and adventure were special to listen to. However, somewhere along the way, his successful Sundown album never made it into my collection. Although I was familiar with a couple of the well known songs on this album, I never really knew much about it...until recently. What an absolute genius work of music !! Every song is sincere and genuine, especially "Seven Island Suite" which I never heard until I purchased this CD a month ago. If you don't own any of Gordon's music, buy this one and you'll simply be knocked out.Read full review
I have always loved Gordon Lightfoot and had this album years ago. I wanted the CD and have been very happy listening to it once again.

Gordon began his boating ballad phase with what I think is his best of the genre, the entrancing "Seven Islands", a carefree, introspective discovery about acceptance of life's ebbs and flows, from a seasoned and knowing soul. Circle of Steel is a Charles Dickens ballad, illustrating Gordon's ironic use of holiday and hopelessness. Appearing erratic, this album takes truisms and draws the listener to lush dimensional melodies which may yet elevate this album to a higher status in the Lightfoot library.
Arrived in brand new condition. Gord's Sundown CD is one of his best. Songs: on this CD include Sundown, Carefree Highway, and my fave "under-rated" Lightfoot song: "Is There Anyone Home"! Lots of other great songs!
