This game was released after Dirt 1, and that's what I like about it. It fixes many of the mistakes that Dirt 1 had, and Dirt 2 cleans up this game's mistakes. I like the graphics, but the graphics seem to have some sort of contrast issue or cloudiness... I wish there was a way to adjust the contrast in game, so maybe I can google it or something. The gameplay itself is superb. The one thing I found wrong when racing in 2 of the races so far is that the handling is off... but that could just be due to the fact I'm used to a controller instead of a keyboard, for racing games, so I'll have to hook one up soon. Overall very nicely done.
The graphics and realism are awesome. Although its based on the DiRT engine, this game runs way smoother, while maintaining great graphics. It's not just DiRT on tarmac either, they add in new twists and different looks to make it different, so you won't get tired of it right away even if you played the crap outta DiRT. I don 't care for the drift contests, I think they are kinda dumb, but I do like that there is a demolition race. In multiplayer online races, you can see the other cars you are racing and make contact with them, unlike dirt. One problem I noticed is there is not much for sound options, and during racing, I don't get rear surround sound, just stereo and center speakers, but in other parts of the game, all 5.1 channels work ok. Overall, it is definitely worth the money. Runs super smooth on my computer even at high resolutions. My specs are 3.2 athlon dual core. 2 8800gts 640mb (old version) in SLI. 4 raptors in raid 0. Sometimes Dirt is choppy on this system (no matter what I do with the settings), but Grid always runs smooth.Read full review
The good: The graphics are incredible, the selection of cars is rather large, and the locations and detail in them is nothing short of outstanding. The bad: The game won't play on one of my laptops, so if you're contemplating this game you need to have a pretty beefy system. The bad, gameplay: All that makes this game truly outstanding leads to a steep learning curve. Game controls are not easy to manage, so you have to put up with some frustrating out of control crashes and donuts into the gravel on the tracks. There's almost too much jerkiness in the outputs to be even remotely real. I drive real cars on road race tracks, and there is nothing like this kind of difficulty to control a vehicle at speed--hell, in the game it is almost harder to control the car at low speeds, the RPMs skyrocket as if you're in neutral and this leads to spin outs and oversteering, etc. This is just not the way real cars (even race-prepped cars) behave. Anyway, I can see how some people would give up after a few hours of crashing and going pretty much nowhere. Overall if you have the patience to get through the learning curve, you are rewarded well.Read full review
It's nowhere as realistic as Grand Tourismo or Forza on PS3/xbox360. However, this game's gentle learning curve makes it easy for anyone to get into. Feels quite "arcady" sometimes but it's not necessarily a bad thing. I like the accessible career mode. Also, it displays your ranking compared to all players in the world even in single player mode. The only thing I don't like is it may feel not realistic enough for hard core racing fans. Overall this game strikes a perfect balance of accessibility and realism.
It my chair moved back and forth with the car I would think I was really racing. Pretty fun game for sure but NOT easy on the harder levels. WOW, they stomp me every time. LOVE the figure 8 crash derby BUT HATE the fact there is only the one track you can race on like that. They need a bunch because it is one of the most fun races it has. ALL in ALL it is worth the money I think. IF you can handle truly smart AI's and being rammed off the road and into the wall. As far as realism in damage, that to is pretty good. In truth real cars could take what I have done to them but it would be a VERY short race if they were to take real life damage. First turn I would be out along with 3 or 4 other folks after I slammed into them. Have fun and remember "Rubbing IS Racing!"
