This printer is identical physically to the LaserJet 4250 and 4350. However, the microcode/firmware has been "crippled" intentionally by HP to print a bit slower than the 4250. But more importantly, it will not take the 42X toners, which are designed for maximum page yield, approx. 20,000 pages. You will be limited to the 42A toners, which yield approx. 10,000 pages. I suggest, then, buying a 4250 or 4350 model, to make sure you don't have this issue. And if you're on a network, make sure you get one with embedded network adapter or an EIO network card. These old boys are serious workhorses, and even though they date back to 2005, they can run just about forever, with a little maintenance. BTW new HP-branded toners are VERY expensive. They can easily cost more than the price of a used 4200-series printer alone. That said, there are many reputable rebuilders/3rd party manufacturers, who sell excellent non-HP branded toners.Read full review

We've been using these same printers for ages - they aren't made anymore, but we are so accustomed to them that we didn't want to have to re-learn everything with a new one. This one is just great - works like a charm, just as if it were brand new!
