barry levinson of diner fame created the best crime drama ever presented on television. with innovative filming, editing and superior acting I have purchased all seven seasons. while not a ringing endorsement for a trip to Baltimore the weekly stories always kept me entralled and encouraged me to visit the city where it was being filmed. in such a strong group performance all the players formed an integral part. and while the character of captain and detective pemberton seemed to get the most air time the "villians" and victims also filled the screen. each episode held its own as a complete drama but i could hardly wait for each new episode. and while actresses like melissa leo went on to exceptional film careers with films like 21 grams and the recent 3 burials Homicide formed an important foundation for future award winning filmography..Read full review
Police work at its finest. Each episode portrayal is exactly how it works in real police work. The characters and situations take place in Baltimore. They are so human, emotional, and realistic. With all the frailities of the detectives; and, sometimes, too, the victums/perpetrators, you can really relate to their feelings concerning each and every case they work. You see everyside of the coin: from the detective who cares too much to the detective only going through the motions, the helpless victum or the monstrous villian. You learn to love the characters; and, in some instances, even hate some of them. This is police work at its rawness. From the beginning of the crime to the final resolution, you will be mesmorized. This is the BEST TV police drama ever made.
You either love it or hate it ! I found this show one of the best police dramas ever produced. The actors are diverse and as different as night and day. The writing 1st quality; the directing excellent. I would rank it up there with "Hill Street Blues" for authenticity, diversity, and factuality; far superior to "NYPD Blue" or "Law and Order". It brings gut-wrenching humanity and realistic pain to the episodes; you can not help but be touched by it.
you cant watch on tv anywhere, you have to buy the dvd's. I love the conversations the cast has on the show.
