Don't watch this movie if you think that it is going to be a biography of the life of Dave Van Ronk. It is however a very accurate and entertaining story of that brief period in the early 60's when folk music was becoming re-popularised. Sure there are characters that resemble; Van Ronk, Tom Paxton, the Clancy Brothers, Richard and Mimi Farina and Rambling Jack Elliot but the real beauty of this film is how the Coen brothers have captured the milieu of that period. I know because I was there, a 15 year old watching all these artists playing in the coffee shops and then practicing like mad so I could play those tunes around the fountain in Washington Sq Park.
