This is a great book. Forget about politics and just take in the message. This country is in trouble in many different ways. Both parties have their agenda and neither are focused on the root of the problem. Family is the answer. Paying for other peoples children might meet the material needs but does not teach values and priorities. This comes from families. Santorum shows a depth of knowledge that every father and mother should read and every person who does not support the traditional family should read as well and do some serious soul searching. This book has solidified my values and made me want to be a better man.
To many, former PA Senator Rick Santorum is an over-the-top conservative. However, this book describes a virtue which many have lost: the role of the family in America. Santorum argues that "the key to building capital...is fostering the formation, stability, and success of the traditional family(pp 10)". He breaks this 'capital' into five categories: social, economic, moral, cultural, and intellectual. With Santorum running for the 2012 GOP presidentail nomination, this book is a must-read for those who are unsure of what he actually stands for. Senator Santorum's position of increasing the wellbeing of families in America is an interesting theory that is worth the read. Although written a few years before the downturn in the economy, and statistics are a few years outdated, Santorum's views remain the same, and the arguments remains intact. it seems this book is almost written in contrast to Hillary Rodham Clinton's "It Takes A Village", which Santorum references numerous times.Read full review
