Mar-Vel was a Midwestern country label cranking out singles in the '50s. Very few of these, if any, became hits but that doesn't mean One Day's 2014 label sampler isn't fun. If anything, hearing such Everly Brothers knock-offs as the Beverley Sisters makes Jump Baby Jump more fun, because this is a collection of country singers on the make, hoping to scare up a bit of Hank Williams honky tonk or western swing boogie -- or even some rockabilly -- to take them onto the charts. For lovers of '50s country, this is worth a listen; there are some gems to be found. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine
