Bought this M9 as a backup to my M10, after losing one to muggers in South Africa, luckily only fitted with a cheapo artisan 50mm. So tried and tested this one, up dated firmware, ccd sensor and internal light meter ok as long as you use raw file and edit in Lightroom the M9 is excellent and if you want anything better save up for a M10

Well, if cost is not a problem then you are surely 'LEICA MAN' the M9 is a superior full Sensor work of art with the toughness of a tank in the body of a Lamborghini... I previously owned the superb M6 TTL which was my workhorse for many years but I was not at all impressed with the M8 Digitals, partly because they were cropping the full frame that the Leica Lenses use and for 10 Mp you could get a compatible result with a Nikon or Canon DSLR far cheaper. I realised that a full frame Leica would soon happen and was glad I waited. The results were as expected but the change to Digital and the exceptional sharpness of the glass does have some consequences, mainly the 'Moiré effect when there are parallel lines that converge with certain pixel scaling... this can be quite annoying at times and is by no means easy to fix in Photoshop or Capture one when the scene is complex.. as in buildings or varying colours of clothing. this is due mainly to Leica not using AA Filtering found on most other Digital Cameras. the reason is to keep the full resolution and sharpness of their superb Lenses which Anti Alaising Filtering would undoubtedly soften... see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-aliasing_filter Could there be a 'fix' for this in any future firmware updates ??? the LCD Screen is no longer Sapphire Glass and might now scratch without care.. these 2 factors make the M9 in my opinion 95% but not yet 100%Read full review
I have owned a few Leica rangefinders ending with the M8 which I still have. Yes, they are beautifully made cameras. Yes, with the right lens they will take excellent pictures. Yes, I will award 5 stars because it is a wonderful camera. I just can't see why anyone would bother. I was walking around a high end London department store before Christmas. It catered for about 0.000001 of the world's population. Everything was horribly expensive and seemingly aimed at people who have so much money that they can't think what to spend it on. This is where Leica come in. They work on the idea that the less they give us the better we will think the camera is. My M8 was the same quality as the M9...very nice. But then, so is my Ixus 500hs which cost me £159. The Kodak sensor is good, but not utterly exceptional. To fully get the best out of your Leica you must buy into the dream. The lenses, the cases etc. This will add up to a huge fortune. Use standard lenses and you will get excellent results. Use Leica lenses you will get excellent results and also the feeling that you've spent tens of thousands on a dream. Range finder cameras are/were/will be inconvenient and old fashioned. They are not a revelation. They have been used by generations and have been consigned to the past. If you wish to believe that you have some new found focusing freedom, carry on. I love Leica cameras but I'm clear headed to see them for what they are. For people who have so much money that needless expenditure is a way of life. For everyone else, like professionals of the past, buy a decent Canon or Nikon and some of their stella lenses and take better pictures for a fraction of the cost.Read full review
I have upgraded from a TZ7, which I was extremely happy with. TZ10 adds more to it: PASM modes, a GPS receiver, faster AF, and better colours. TZ10 fails when it comes to noise, it has a higher MP same size sensor, not so good. But, you have more settings that you can adjust and get over it. There is also a hacked firmware for TZ10, which is wonderful! You can basically increase the mbps rate for the videos and the result is incredible. Even this possibility is enough to buy one for. Overall, strongly recommended.
