Navy tanker kit. Better quality than I expected, know the Lindberg kits from more than 50 years ago but this one is molded very well, is larger than I expected, scale is around 1/500, box scale, but quite good for what it is. Price was very reasonable, will end up being a nice kit when I'm done, good basis for a really good kit or nice out of the box. My Dad was on a similar tanker in WWII. All the best.

This is a "reboot" of an old PYRO mold that became LIFELIKE before LINDBERG bought it. This recent release remains the same 12' long and details are fair for its size. The original box art was great, the new built up is lacking reality. The kit goes together well once all the "flash has been removed. All the pieces show signs of mold wear that could have been repaired. At one time this kit had been made to be motorized. Those parts are not included here. Kit box showed rigging but at this scale that would not be realistic The parts have very nice features molded into them. There are portholes and panel lines and rail skirts done nicely. If builder is careful they remain after assembly and look good. Need very THIN paint coats for finish. The Lifeboats even have "CLAPBOARD lines on them. Well Done! It is a nice build of an odd item in an odd scale but it looks great when completed. Do your research on actual ship and bring out those little details. Enjoyable for the buck!Read full review

While Revell issued a US Navy Oiler kit, the scale of 1/400 makes it compatible with the larger Heller Company and similarly scaled warship models. This kit by Lindberg scales at around 1/520, making it compatible with the range of 1/500 scale warships by Revell, the recent reissues by Revell of Renwal warships, and others. Deck detail is nice, and the model is a decent depiction of an early WW2 USN Oiler, which with some detailing using PE railings could provide an even further detailed model of this type of ship that was critical to supporting the Fleet during WW2 and afterwards.

I say it’s not durable because it’s a plastic model not because it’s not a quality product
