At the age of twenty-four Ellen Daniels was diagnosed as having a rare eye condition; at thirty-five she was registered as blind. Nine years later, widowed and with two dependent children, she reached a major turning point in her life when she realised she had a gift for listening to the wants and needs of other blind people. It was then that she undertook an Open University course, graduating in 1980 with a BA Honours Degree, and subsequently trained as a Counsellor specialising in the needs of the visually impaired. In this book Ellen explains what it is like to lose your sight and how professional and lay people alike can help.
