Bought in a nostalic moment! Being some 40+ years old, the loco is way below modern standards and is a lot noisier than modern tank locos. Tempremental and needing ultra clean track to perform at its best I found it useful for testing the track as it was laid, especially through the double slip and the 3 way points. I do like its weight, quite heavy in compison to some manufacturers offerings but if you are after a small 0-6-0 tank loco put the cost of one like this towards a new one.

I did not think such workmanship existed at OO gauge levels. To say the finish is exquisite is probably an understatement. Considering that after all it is a pretty little kettle on wheels, the designer did a damn good job on it.

Well packaged and strong outer box, but locos were wrapped in thin plastic within polystyrene carton and freely moved within this causing one coupling to break and hook and part of the other one breaking also. No offer of replacing/fixing after contacting

Great little tank loco, looks as new, lots of detail on it, required as a static display model, very pleased.

Altough Mainline 00 Guage Models are now some 40 years old; this particular LNER J72 Tank Locomotive is visually in a very good condition. Operationally the Mainline J72 model Tank Locomotive has the weight and adhesion to shunt (forwards and reverse) a rake of 5 Pullman Coaches as required of a Station Pilot Locomotive, without wheel slip on both straight and curved track and fiddle yard points.
