This is a great flash to use like we did in the old days before TTL. Set the ASA, set the aperture, and match the settings on your camera, and it will give you consistent results. It requires some thought and a sync cord, but that's about it. It's also rugged and gives you a great handle if you mount a heavy camera like the K1 with a grip. I can't say how well it works with SCA modules as I don't have any. Contrary to some posts I've read, it also works well with rechargeable NiMH double A batteries. I got mine for a steal at $45.

The Metz flashes have always been of high quality, and with consistent performance. The 45 CL-1 is a work horse, and while some might consider it "Old Technology", it still packs quite a wallop with a guide number a ISO100 of 148'. It is far more powerful than the wimpy little flashes built into most cameras today, and compared to newer high power flashes, it is very cost effective. The low trigger voltage (about 6V on mine) means that it can be used on not only older film cameras, but most modern digital cameras as well.

If you can operate without TTL, this is a great flash for the money. Simple to operate in AUTOMATIC or MANUAL modes, this is the most basic of the Metz Handle-mount line and a workhorse for large rooms and outdoor applications. With the optional 45-33 telephoto extender (which effectively doubles the reach) it is also useful in low-light nature photography.
Back in the day of film, this was one of the industry standards. Using TTL modules, this flash could be used with many different 35mm and medium format cameras. For digital use, the user must have some idea of aperature and shutter speed settings, as it can only be used in manual. For the photoshop folks, buy a dedicated flash. For the trained photographer....this is a powerful flash, very versital, and can be used to shoot at a great distance.
