NOT as strong as the previous gem ..."BANG" but filled with driving, guitar leads ...it is amazing to me just how little credit TOMMY BOLIN got in the day...He had the misfortune of following the original guitarist ,Joe Walsh and the next capable replacement ,Domenic Troiano.Walsh diehards just disappeared leaving the material following his departure ,unexplored. For those of us open minded listeners...we had many more yrs left of enjoyment.Walsh would later admit Tommys ability was extraordinary with Tommy able to play "CIRCLES" around Him.Worth a purchase and enjoy the funky intensity of the "KID"!.
At the time this was released, I wasn't totally pleased by the 2nd release with tommy bolin on guitar. There are some great songs, & after mellowing out after 33 years, I like it alot more now. More ballads on this release, but they blend in well. And the rythum section is solid. If not for Peters, & Fox, the band would have been no more.
I tollaty forgot how great this cd was,i was fortunate enough to see Tommy Bolin live a couple of times before he passed years ago. This Cd is a master also Deep Purple`s Come Taste The Band featuring Tommy Bolins Guitar licks.
In a way Joe Walsh leaving the band done us all a bit of a favor, it allowed most of us to learn about the incredible guitarist Tommy Bolin. The tracks on this cd are all great. This is true to form 70's rock. It is just as good (in my opinion) as any of the James Gang releases that came before it. My only complaint, but it was common for the time period was the lack of material on this release, too bad they couldn't have put several more songs on it back then. Other than being far too short (less than 10 songs) it is great classic rock.
I'm from Denver so I grew up listening to Tommy Bolin and learning all his licks. His guitar playing is still refrreshing after 30 years. This album rocks heavy and drips of the 70's.
