ITV's 1973 _World At War_ was one of the first major series about the Second World War made in colour in the UK. A massive effort taking over 3 years of archive research, survivor & academic interviews, image & movie research, & manually-animated maps, topped off by a brilliant narration read by Sir Laurence Olivier, one of the greatest actors of his generation. Despite its age, & new sources discovered & released in the last half-century, it remains one of the gold-standard accounts of the War as a whole. 26 52-minute episodes summarising the British perspective of the War, 30 years after it ended, when the memories were still clear but people had time to reflect & analyse. This new boxed set includes restored footage from the original master tapes, repaired sound & vision, & about 12 hours of supplementary material including new commentary, making-of features, outtakes & fuller interviews from participants of the War & the doco makers, newsreels & maps, all in widescreen. Other than buying it on BluRay, this is as good as it gets. Good quality card slipcase with two DVD boxes: 5 discs in one, 6 in the other. 2,082 minutes - over 34 & a half hours.
