After 10+ years of nursing, I cried my way through several of the episodes. As well as laughed as hard at the same ones. Of course I'm horrified for the public to get the idea that as professionals we take drug use/abuse so lightly, or even worse, work impaired on the job...but being a nurse all day, then being required to be a nurse at home too...it's a 24/7 calling to always care for others. So to have a show SHOW that level of devotion, sacrifice, personal flaws, personal strengths - that she's human and doing a hell of a job. I simply felt VINDICATED. I only wish I could have gone through half my shifts using the wise cracks and autonomy that unfortunately are only hollywood - while a lot of us are that smart and capable and do take care of the patients not the doctors...we really aren't even allowed to give a tylenol without an MD order, and getting it out of a computerized machine, as depicted at the end of this first season. No ways around it - and as all charting is by law legally bound to you and what you did for 7 years, at any time, that exhaustion, that patient overload and lack of help, could easily come back and get you from the slimy legal community when patients are so litigious theses days. If a patient doesn't get their outcome, or a bereaved family loses a loved one, the anger gets turned out at the entire chain of command that ever touched that patient's chart - so with that many worries nagging away at you any 8-16 hour shift...you can see how easily it was for these writers to make the leap and create this character. Sadly, the intro to the very first episode as she's flat on her back rang the truest - those with the greatest capacity to do good, also have to do evil (paraphrased!), and the question of what you call a nurse with a bad back? Unemployed. That's me. And volunteering at the SPCA to unwind and recover from giving my heart and soul away for 10+ years. Thank you Nurse Jackie staff - from the writers, to the wonderful cast.Read full review

Kind of a downer at times but very good. Some humor and some very serious subjects taken on. The acting ensemble is excellent. A superb delivery of a story that is one of the best productions on television.
If you’re looking for a show with a lot of dry humor about a pill addict nurse and her crazy life, this is it! Wouldn’t recommend for anyone that is sensitive to...well, anything because this show covers it all!!
HAHAHA , my wife has watched this in one day . We just ordered season 2. She loves nurse Jackie as she her self is in the medical field . Hope you all injoy .
