This is a great camera with 3 color chip (3 CCD) technology it gives you unpresidented color richness and beauty in just a consumer camera. First of all it is compact and easy to carry around on trips. Most importantly, however, you have great control of the picture. This camera gives you the ability to change the shutter speed, the white balance (manually), and change the iris (how much light goes through the lense. The camera even takes 1.2 mega pixal pictures (SD card for memory! It can connect to the computer via USB 2.0 (for the pictures) and firewire (for the video). This camera is a must have for the family upto the low budget independant film guy like me. This is a great 3 CCD chip camera and I've had many brands of camcorders. Panasonic has really come up with a winner with this entry level camera with a lot of bells and whistles. Outdoors the images are crisp, clear and vivid, focus is quick, indoors I was presently surprised and with minimum lighting(75 watt bulb in a 10 X 20 room) I was able to get very good images without any annoying lines or color fade. Color was well above average compared with single chip cameras. I don't care for the magicPix for 0 lux since it's basically a stop motion image. To get around that I decided to get a movie light and it had to be very small in relation to the camera. I checked out several LED movie lights, their output and color balance and of course the price. All were up there in price and very large, so I decided to try something else. I purchased a small flash light with 12 super bright LED's. The light is 3 3/4 inches long and 1 inch wide bright silver in color using 3 AAA batteries. I've recorded a full hour of tape and the batteries were still putting out light. Looks real sharp on the camera and adds very little weight. I attached it to the camera shoe with an electrical conduit clamp and started taping. The results were outstanding I recorded scenes 25 to 30 feet from the subject in total darkness. The auto white balance on the camera took care of the blue appearance of the lamps. This is a great combination. Now you ask what was the price of this project, would you believe under 10 bucks....So I've got a great camera and a great movie light at a very reasonable price. I highly recommend this camera.Read full review
I recently had purchased a different camcorder that had an internal hard drive, it was a JVC model with I think a 20gb hard drive. I was really unhappy with the quality and clarity of the video. I returned it and bought the PV-GS, I had heard good things about Panasonic and have been very pleased with the outcome. I feel it is easier to use and actually has a better video than the previous JVC model. If you are considering a MiniDV to a HD camera, stay with the MiniDV.
I already have one of these and I love it!! For the price you can't beat this Camcorder. 3CCD processing, microphone input, very easy to use and a top loader so no interference with a tripod. Easy to mount a light or mic on top, accepts a wide angle lens and a backlit monitor.
Thanks for the camera!
