I bought my first Panasonic HDC-HS700 when it was new, in 2010, to replace a Sony that had poor light sensitivity. The Panasonic is compact, lightweight, easy to learn, light-sensitive, and with a GOOD microphone (I use a Rode StereoVideo Pro) I've recorded hundreds of live jazz videos with it -- my site is called JAZZ LIVES, with apologies for the plug. The only problem with this camera is that it is delicate. All of my three cameras are the same, and I treasure each one, but they tend to stop and die inexplicably -- possibly because the 240 GB hard drive (which can record 20+ hours in 1080) is unstable and finicky. So when I go to video a concert or a festival, I bring at least two of the little marvels. Panasonic's new models are, I am told, not really improvements. So look for this little gem.Read full review

This camera is simply awesome, period! I initially was looking at the "little brother" of this cam that has but one MOS sensor (this one has THREE) and there is no comparison; if you're gonna jump, jump in BIG! If you record at an event and want to playback on hi def TV this is second to none for the money. This camera is a LOT more machine than I waa ready for and every time I use it I learn more. The only negative I would post, is that its (like any other camcorder with LCD screen) tough to see the subject in daylight. My kid is running track, and I kind of have to guess where he is on the track to capture him in the frame, but the camera is SO forgiving if you can stay close, you'll get it, not tomention, the resolution is so good, that if you just keep the focus pulled back, you can't miss. If you can use the viewfindr (which I evidently need practice with) you can nail it. This thing is killer!!Read full review
I have 6 camcorders and use these professionally. I have three of this model and they are very dependable and excellent in low light and ease of use. i am going to buy another one soon.
