At last count I have a dozen of these units. And yes, I do recommend them. I bought my first as soon as they were released for Nikon. They mesh perfectly with Nikon's Creative Lighting System (CLS). They work simply out of the box using the CLS system controls in camera but extending the range to hundreds of feet, eliminating need for line of sight, and no worries about bright sunlight. The TT5 and MiniTT substitute radio waves for infra-red. The control pre-flashes are eliminated, being replaced with radio signals. Only a metering pre-flash is used in TTL, and no pre-flash at all in manual control. This eliminates or reduces pre-flash induced blinks or reactions. I use a MiniTT on camera because it is smaller and lighter. But good to know a FlexTT5 can be used on camera if needed. These units work great as is, but things get really interesting with the addition of an AC3 unit to provide instant control of 3 separate groups of flashes in TTL or manual or mixed. Sekonic's L-478dr light meter also can control the flashes...not just set them off, but adjust the intensity remotely in manual mode. This is a great convenience for setting flash ratios. My experience has only been with Nikon Speedlights, but Pocketwizard provides additional devices to allow function with certain studio strobes. The support from LPA design, the parent company, is just fantastic. They provide firmware updates to keep up with Nikon's latest offerings, and will answer questions directly by email. I have had only one Pocketwizard device ever fail, and LPA repaired it at no cost. There is one downside to the TT5/MiniTT. They require connection to a computer to change settings. But you do have a choice of two customizable pre-sets. The units also can "learn" the settings of another unit without a computer. I use Eneloop rechargeable batteries for my speedlights and TT5s. The TT5s will prematurely show the batteries at about half charge when they are near full charge. This is only because the NiMH batteries have a "rest" voltage of 1.2V instead of the 1.5V of carbon zinc. This does not reduce the overall battery life or performance using NiMH batteries. One other slight concern is the idiosyncrasy of radio waves that it is rarely possible a remote flash can be in a null point. Usually changing the TT5 antenna angle or slightly moving the speedlight will eliminate this. Overall the TT5/MintTT opens up the CLS system to most any situation, studio or location, indoors or out.Read full review

Put your AC3 zone controller on top of this, after you put this on top of your camera. These can be found cheap on eBay. It's easy to follow the directions and make this work. It will let you set off units that you can't even see, from very far away. With TTL. This is what convinced me to buy the system. Just remember to check if it's for Nikon and if it's for the US and not European version (unless you use Canon or live in Europe, of course) and it will work with your gear. There is plenty of information to review while you wait for all your gear to come in. For example, there are some good videos on youtube related to the pocketwizard. I enjoyed the series of videos "Pocket Wizard ControlTL 'Mild to Wild' ", by JerryPH Photography, where you can see how to use hypersync, TTL vs. manual mode, etc. The angry photographer also has videos about this subject, and gave information about buying triggers that have only one pin on the bottom, as opposed to multiple pins like the Flex TT5, and what the limitations might be. For example, I think he said one pin was a "quench" signal pin, which might help to stop all the flashes at the same exact time. Even if you don't use TTL all the time, it may be convenient if you shoot weddingsRead full review

I have 3 of these. They are pretty much necessary for remote power level control of lights using the Pocket Wizard system. I haven't had any trouble from any of the many Pocket Wizard products I own. They all just work as intended. These Flex TT5s are among the most versatile of the triggers PW offers. Good quality product. Very useful.

Adding this FlexTT5 to my collection gives me four (4) now to expand my studio lighting capabilities. It works perfectly with my MiniTT1 and AC-3 ... and my Nikon D850 with four Speedlights (SB-5000s and SB-600s). These are harder to find these days, especially new, and although the technology may be aging, they still work great giving me terrific control over a 4 speedlight system. And, unlike Nikons own system, they work up to hundreds of feet. Seller got it to me quickly, and in good order.
