Compass / Clinometer. Pros:- Cheap- 1/5 the price of a suunto etc. Solid. Easy to read - big clear numbers. Good accuracy. Cons:- Heavy for a bushwalking compass. No declination correction. Overall, I always keep a light plastic suunto, just in case I need it. But for trips where I _expect_ to need a compass, I'll take this one. For the price & robustness & ease of use & big print, 20 of these would be good for a bunch of school kids.

It's very functional, solidly built, does a good job for its price. It has in inbuilt spirit level which should be observed and used, as it affects the performance. The only shortcoming is the crude inclinometer, a swinging pendulum against a protractor prone to sticking.
