First of all, i would like to mention that this book is very well written. I am very pleased with the amount of work put into making the reader emmotionaly connected with the characters in the book. I was taken away to the small Irish town and lost among an array of colorful characters. There is so much time put into developing a relationship with the characters in the book. The author makes it a point to not make anything too exciting happen because that would be "unrealistic." I appreciate the effort to create a realistic story, but it causes long periods of nothing much at all. After reading the entire book I am left with a sour taste in my mouth. There is little satisfaction and i was left feeling frustrated and angry. Although, I would never feel that way if I wasn't strongly drawn into the story in the first place. In the end I feel like the reader invests a lot into connecting with the characters and they gain a disappointing result. I did enjoy reading this book and following a sick and twisted mystery, although I'm not sure if I would recommend it only because it is extremely frustrating and in the end i feel like I got nothing after putting in all the work of following these character around. THIS BOOK IS GREAT FOR READERS WHO ENJOY DEPRESSING STORIES!!!Read full review
A long story and a bit heavy reading at times though I was always ready to get back to it. Good twists and turns and I enjoyed Ms. French's writing style. The story's end was somewhat expected, and I was sorry that it couldn't be better. But it was all in line with the overall theme. I would like to think that the storyteller went on to a good life.

I found this to be a very interesting story with well rounded characters and a killer plot. You can almost feel the main characters pain. I enjoyed Ms. French's writing style, not typical of mystery writers. The only thing I didn't like was I felt she sometimes went into a bit too much detail about what a character was thinking or a particular situation. Other than that I found it to be a fine read and look forward to reading her next book.
