2 LPs on 1 CD: IRISH SONGS THE WHITMAN WAY (1966)/REMINISCING (1966). Liner Note Authors: Maurice Hope; Herb Shucher. Editor: John Tobler. Originally released as two separate LPs in the '60s, Irish Songs the Slim Whitman Way and Reminiscing find the golden-throated yodeler in fine form. His decidedly "countrified" renditions of Irish classics like "Galway Bay" and "Londonderry Air" -- no "Danny Boy"? -- feature weeping pedal steels in lieu of pipes and fiddles, and serve as an excellent showcase for his pitch perfect voice. Reminiscing -- both records appear on a single disc -- is a collection of sentimental favorites and wistful laments that includes a version of Hank Williams' "Mansion on the Hill" and the Whitman classic "More Than Yesterday." Collectors will be thrilled, as both of these records have been out of print for years, making this two-fer a great buy, but the casual fan would do just as well picking any one of the numerous Whitman collections. ~ James Christopher Monger
