I like this blade a lot. It is stylish and sturdy and fits well in the hand. My only complaints are: 1)that there is not an emerson type feature for rapid deployment 2) The pocket clip can not be switched around for reverse grip deployment. Therefore if you hold the blade in a regular manner and are looking for a good value for your money on a karambit, then I would unreservedly recommend it. However, it you are a blade enthusiast that prefers a reverse grip deployment then I would suggest you pass on this one.

This will be a good news bad news review of what could be a great value blade. First the good: sharp out of the box (unlike some Schrade knives that can't even cut typing paper out of the box); decent fit and finish; smooth and solid pivot; extra hardware and clip; aggressive blade profile; well placed jimping; real G10 scales; well placed and sized thumb studs; decent detent and retention that allows for wrist-flipping this blade open with authority. Now the bad: lock bar engagement rapidly wore in from about 50% to 110% in less than 100 openings; shaky lock up (press on spine and blade will move out of battery); ridiculous finger grooves that don't line up to your fingers no matter what grip you use; small finger hole; no mounting holes for the pocket clip on the opposite side to carry this karambit with a pocket clip oriented for right hand deployment with finger ring up (you could use it left handed ring up, but ring up right side the knife is flipped the wrong way around). Let's break this down: it's a karambit and it is traditionally deployed and used with the index finger in the finger ring in a reverse or "ice pick" grip blade edge forward. Not having the clip mounted or possible to mount for this manner of tip up carry speaks volumes and is typical of poorly made and designed folding karambits. Have a look at any of the cheap karambits on eBay and you will not find even one that has the clip on the correct side for tip up carry so that you can deploy it right handed. Great if you want to use it with your support hand as a back up to CCW or something like that...but IMO a cardinal sin for any folding karambit it to not to be able to be carried and deployed like a karambit. It's not regular knife...it is not meant to be used or deployed like a spear for thrusting...it is meant to be deployed reverse grip edge out and up for slashing, etc. Ergonomics? There are no considerations made for ergonomic use of this blade. The finger grooves are only there for looks...they just won't line up with your fingers even if you don't use the finger ring...and it is a karambit so of course you are going to use the finger ring. The handle is much larger than it should be in length. The finger hole is smaller than it should be. The whole handle design is so wrong that it makes the knife awkward and hot spotted. I ground off all the finger grooves and the knife became much better in hand. How many people are going to do that besides me? Probably no one. Lock up: total fail. After 30 openings the lock bar progressed across the lock face on the blade to 85% and after 100 openings it moved all the way over to 110% until the detent ball was touching the inside of the liner on the opposite side and only partially engage on the lock face of the blade. The only thing keeping the lock bar from slipping completely past the blade and failing entirely was the detent ball slap up against the inside of the liner. Part of this wear is from the lock face wearing, part of this is from a poorly ground lock face with a wrong angle that only partially engages on the lock bar, and the last part of this wear was from the pillar the spine locks up against deforming. This is totally unacceptable and impossible to repair unless you are a machinist and can make an oversized pillar. I rotated the pillar to regain some real estate on the lock up and after a few openings it deformed again. The pillar material is too soft. If this is the best Schrade can do now that it only sells Chinese made blades avoid the brand entirely. I had hopes that even though this is a Chinese made knife that it would be of sufficient quality to use, but the lock up is so bad that I cannot put it to hard use safely. The cons outweigh the pros in this case and I cannot recommend the SCH110. Avoid.Read full review
