Current slide {CURRENT_SLIDE} of {TOTAL_SLIDES}- Best Selling in Brakes
I've owned three generations of Dura Ace components spanning 30 years: 7400, 7800, and now R9100. Over that time, the shifting has improved radically, the cranks have gotten dramatically stiffer, and everything's gotten lighter. Of all the components, the ones that have changed the least are the brakes. My Dura Ace 7403 dual pivot brakes stop with authority; the 7800 ones are lighter, but still work well. With the same brake shoes on them, I can't really feel much difference with the R9100 brakes, and they're not much lighter, either. Disc brakes would be another matter, but since the last major breakthrough in rim brakes (dual pivot designs) decades ago, there doesn't seem to be much more that Shimano has been able to eke out of these things.
