I purchased a non starting corsa with just 60,000 miles on the clock, suspecting some sort of head failure (gasket/valves etc..) I discovered on removal of the rocker cover the EX cam had jumped some teeth, after putting this back to the correct timing the car started but sounded like the timing chain does on these when its worn. I have changed these before but have always used genuine parts but after reading the reviews decided the additional cost was probably not worth is for an old car! I discovered after stripping the engine the timing chain and sprockets has already been changed and they were in fact the same BGA "branded" parts. comparing the new chain to the old one it was about 4mm shorter than the new one, I also had an old OEM chain that had done 80K from my own corsa (was changed due to the timing chain gasket leaking water!) and this was the same length as the new chain!, I estimate the original chain had done at least 40K before being replaced so I dont think this had done many miles? I did notice the spring tension on the new kit and the one removed was not as forceful as the older original I had. this all got me worrying and after rebuilding the engine (with the old OEM tensioner) I immediately checked the oil pressure thinking the oil pump was bad, but it was fine! I am not sure what had caused this chain to fail so quickly but the car now runs sweet, the noisiest thing on tick over is now the clicking from the injectors. lets hope this chain lasts longer! FYI the old corsa now has 120K on the clock and is good as gold but I must admit it does get revved to the limit often (kick down on the easytronic gearbox) so dont know if this helps lubricate the chain more? also I do change the oil every 10K (20K is just to much for oil unless it spends all the time on a motorway!) I am not convinced the quality of this is to OEM standards! No issues with the seller, its not their fault the old one failed so quickly. Read full review
