As with all glass, you get what you pay for. The SP version of this 70-300mm lens is better than its younger brother having the same description, just without the SP. Do not expect it to be as sharp or free of distortions as a $900 (or a $25000 for that matter) lens. It is a very good next step for those shooters wanting to be closer to the action/the subject at a reasonable price. It is almost as fast as the 18-55mm zoom that is included on most DSLR cameras and takes very good pictures out to about 250, but beyond that clarity fades a little. I would recommend a monopod along with the lens to reduce shake.

I am using this Tamron on a Sony a7 with a Sigma MC-11 adapter. The auto focus constantly hunts, so I use manual exclusively. It is also very squeaky on autofocus. It is pretty sharp up to about 225-250mm. It gets mushy at any focal length beyond that. The VC works very well, and gives me about 3-4 stops of image stabilization. It is better stopped down to ƒ8 or above. As I say, for a couple of hundred bucks it is an okay lens. I have taken some pretty nice bird photos, but I do wish it was sharper.

I am very lucky with 4 copies of Tamron lenses… none of them disappointing me yet… my best guess if, you are familiar behind the lens and camera not just wants to look like Pro with top-end equipments presently, good for display along with have money to burn as well. You will get, what you are paying for Tamron lenses deliveries with IQ, vivid, sharpest even @300mm, USD are quiet and auto focus is lock-in too… shooters are happier like a puppy… hihihi.
This lens is awesome! The quality is amazing, the focus motor is very quiet, and the build looks and feels solid.

Great product with ultra low price... Thanks a lot! This is an A-Mount lens glued to my Hasselblad HV (tuning Sony A99)... Also, this lens works great with my Sony A7RII via LA-EA3 Adapter! Great image quality at 300mm... With my Sony A7RII: I can push it to 2X zoom optic, because this is a 42mp!
