this album by TYA is likely the finest studio album of the bands career. The band was more a live act and the studio never made the band comfortable.Alvin lee proves to be the greatest of all the British invasion guitarists and the band the finest blues outfit backing such outer worldly talent. No guitarist today could pull riffs out of the bag of tricks like Lee did. Of legends past not Clapton nor Robin Trower nor even Kim Simmonds on his V can blues like this axeman and this cat could have schooled Hendrix on the blues and played with Jazz legends like Grant Green ,possibly even Wes Montgomery, and elicited a bewildered look. This group and Lee had ups and down but this self titles album is without question the greatest white boy blues album ever made and it will sustain that distinction till the worlds end. Lee was better Live. I saw him toy with his gibson at a crowded house like it was a lego.I have seen Trower, close contender,Clapton, sabbath, allman bros, zz top and many others but in a small little club I learned what playing guitar was all about. You can have masters of scales and double handed workers of the frets, adepts of structure and knowledge of theory and practice but you only have one superstar white blues player who ever lived and his name is alvin lee. The band is TEN YEARS AFTER, after what who the hell knows, but after this review go out and experience the greatest white boy blues band the world has known and that ever lived.Read full review
