I've always been a fan of Maddox's laugh-out-loud website, "The Best Page In The Universe", since I had a friend link me to one of his many online articles in response to an uncouth comment I made about Ben Stiller. Maddox's fanbase, numbering in the hundreds of thousands, has grown entirely by word of mouth, as he vows never to place ads on websites, or to even sell an ad or two on his own, although doing so would make thousands of dollars in profit from the daily amount of hits his website receives. When I heard he was actually writing a book, I couldn't wait to get my grubby little paws all over it. "The Alphabet of Manliness" has been called frathouse humor by critics and fans alike, although I strongly disagree with that sentiment. While each of the 26 chapters in the book describe means of virility, while simultaneously making numerous derogatory comments toward women, children, the elderly, vegetarians, and other groups of people Maddox finds annoying, one must understand that Maddox may be one of today's most prolific satire writers. Each sentence drips with sarcasm and wit, and those who take his comments too seriously may find it innapropriate or distasteful. Maddox's true fans know he is a satirical writer, and to take nothing he says with any degree of seriousness. He is a humorist, nothing more, nothing less. Maddox, aka George Ouzounian, is a Utah resident who is fluent in several languages, including English and Armenian. He is also reportedly studying Arabic. He started his website in his senior year of high school from the personal computer in his parent's basement, and he has kept writing humrous articles based on everything from current movies, to annoying fashion trends, female flatulence, and Ben Stiller, while his fanbase has grown internationally. The Alphabet of Manliness is a good, solid dose of laughs packed into about 150 pages, and it will keep you grinning ear-to-ear from A(*** kicking) to Z(zombies). I highly recommend this to anyone looking for something funny and quick to read.Read full review
If you like the type of humor that if not kept to check will get you in trouble, then you will most likely enjoy the hell out of this book. It seems that I find myself laughing at every turn of the page. If you find that the title and the cover art(a half naked He-Man type character punching a giant gorilla in the face) any what offensive you may not be up to par with your manliness with the author. I do recommend that you do a little research on this book and author before you make you purchase. This is a very, very funny book but IT IS NOT FOR EVERYONE.
I bought this book because I thought Maddox's articles on his website (http://maddox.xmission.com/)were hilarious and I've been looking forward to reading his book. This book has everything manly from A to Z. It has you reading about things like "Ass Kicking" "Beef Jerky" and "Chuck Norris" which are all manly, and awesome. It really is a funny book if you have a loose sense of humor, and are willing to realize that this is just a book, not a law. If you don't agree with something it was probably written to upset people like you, so don't wine. Buy the book.
I was a regular visitor at his site, www.TheBestPageInTheUniverse.com and that was by far the funniest material I have ever read. So, I figured I'd get the book too. Definitely glad I did, A-Z of what makes men, men. A great book I'd keep, but also want other Maddox fans to read it. He has his own unique opinion on everything, from women to urinal etiquette, it's a must read.
This is a must - read for every man or there
