I originally bought this book about ten years ago. I was so impressed with the scope of things it covered and couldn't wait to try them. Then life happened. I just recently started venturing back into candle making and bought this book again since I couldn't find the other one. I've bought a couple other newer books, this one is still better. She walks you through the supplies you need and why you need them. She also tells you what you can use around the house instead of shelling out the big bucks when you are just starting. It does not cover soy or gel wax, but it does cover some beeswax. It gives you the wax formulations for different types of candles, how to make your wax not shrink, how to make it burn slower, how to make it pliable enough to carve, etc. For beeswax, it covers a little about using it in a mold as well as making candles from beeswax sheets. Some of the projects it includes for paraffin wax are: floating candles, container candles, molded candles, ice candles, water candles, sand candles, hurricane candles, hand dipped or rolled tapers, and how to roll out and twist tapers as well as how to carve candles. At the end, there's a section on troubleshooting, in case you have any problems. I can't think of anything that I don't like about this book. Yes, there are only 128 pages in this book, but they utilize every page. There's not a lot of rambling on done by the author, though she does give pointers on things to do or not do from her experience. It's a very well written, very informative book. It has plenty of pictures to show you what you need to do without being picture heavy. The pictures alone have already helped me in areas I wasn't sure if I was doing it right. I would definitely suggest this book to anyone wanting to learn how to make candles. It's well worth the cost.Read full review
